What is a chakra ? 

A chakra is an energy centre located within the human body. There are seven major chakras, each of these chakras corresponds to unique aspects of our physical wellbeing, our emotional patterns, mind patterns, spiritual growth, and ultimately our life situations.
Our chakras can become blocked due to unprocessed physical & or emotional trauma, when our chakras become blocked this impacts on the energy flow through the body & can manifest in physical and non physical symptoms.
 

What are the seven major chakras and what are they associated with ?  

 

The Crown Chakra

The crown chakra is associated with the colour violet, it is located at the top of the head and is what links us to our spiritual connection & wisdom, when unblocked it aids us in unity, intelligence, awareness, understanding, bliss & pure consciousness. When this chakra becomes blocked it can cause misunderstanding, fuzzy mind, pessimism and leave us unable to see the bigger picture. This chakra is linked with the following physical aspects of the body: The entire body & the mind.
 

Third Eye

The third eye chakra is associated with the colour Indigo, it is located between the brows in the centre of the forehead and is linked to insight & intuition, when unblocked it aids perception, insight, dreams, visions & clairvoyance. When this chakra becomes blocked it can cause muddied thoughts, misunderstanding, confusion and can also leave you feeling uninspired.
This chakra is linked with the following physical aspects of the body: Pituitary, pineal, brain, hypothalamus, head, eyes, face.
 

Throat Chakra

The throat chakra is associated with the colour blue, it is located in the middle of the throat and is connected to self-expression and life purpose, when unblocked it aids our ability and connection to artistry, service, communication, synchronicity & speaking our truth. When this chakra becomes blocked it can make us unable to listen and cause us to speak nervously, not speak our truth or not speak up at all, it can also cause us to compare and despair and seek approval. 

This chakra is linked with the following physical aspects of the body: Thyroid, parathyroid, metabolism, ears, nose, throat, mouth.

Heart Chakra

The heart chakra is associated with colour green, it is located at the heart centre and is connected to the soul, love and connection, when unblocked this chakra enables us to trust, heal, surrender, connect, love and surrender. When blocked or imbalanced this chakra can cause us to disconnect and become lonely, lack emotion and feel numb and or heavy.

This chakra is linked with the following physical aspects of the body: Thymus, respiratory system, immune system, heart, lungs, upper back, arms, hands.

Solar Plexus Chakra

The solar plexus chakra is associated with the colour yellow, it is located at the upper abdomen and is connected to the Mind, Ego and Identity, when unblocked it aids our drive, energy, confidence, leadership skills and strong will. When blocked it can lead to Low self-esteem, narcissism, lethargy, guilt, anxiety and make us feel directionless.

This chakra is linked with the following physical aspects of the body: Digestion, adrenals, liver, spleen, small intestine, middle back.

Sacral Chakra

The sacral chakra is associated with the colour orange, it is located at the lower abdomen and is connected to our emotions, intimate relationships, instincts and creativity, when unblocked it aids our pleasure, sensuality, fertility, joy, creativity and adaptability. When blocked it can cause unsatisfying, relationships and leave us ungrounded, uninspired, and out of touch with gut instinct.
This chakra is linked with the following physical aspects of the body: reproductive system, lower digestive organs, kidneys, lower back.
 

Root Chakra

The root chakra is associated with the colour red, it is located at the base of the spine and is linked to our physical existence, safety and survival, when unblocked & aligned this chakra aids our groundedness, presence, vitality, patience, abundance and stability. When blocked or imbalanced it can cause lack, fear, restlessness, anger, and leave us feeling inflexible, stuck and longing for home.


This chakra is linked with the following physical aspects of the body: Legs, feet, hips, lower back, elimination system.
